I am a community-based educator, new media artist, and interdisciplinary researcher who investigates the intersection of critical pedagogy and play. Specifically, my work focuses on developing pedagogical approaches that activate civic engagement through the creation and use of digital and interactive technologies, such as video games, for social justice. I received my Ph.D. in Art Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and my action research dissertation challenged existing games as cultural systems with youth through prosumer development and critical play in community-based settings. Currently, I am serving as an assistant professor of games in the School of Arts, Technology, and Emerging Communication at the University of Texas at Dallas. My research interests include Critical Pedagogy, Game & Play studies, Games & Learning, Feminist Science & Technology Studies, and New Media Arts Education.
